Dump your Blackberry

Well, we tried to warn you. The RIM network (where all email flows if you have a Blackberry) crashed. Frankly we are happy to tell you that we told you so!

Campaigner in Chief

Are we the only ones who think that our President has become the "master of the stall"? We think that he is just waiting and hoping that things improve until the next election.

Run for your lives!

ATTENTION! The terror alert has been elevated to fuchsia. (If we were really at risk, the Federal Government might just let us carry guns. Do you suppose?)

Online Banking

I wanted to move funds between my accounts with my bank's online interface. There is NO Cut & Paste link. What's up with THAT? You have to click Transfer. (This is why the banking industry is in so much trouble. Don't you think?)

Arguing vs Discussing . . .

The difference between arguing and discussing is that when I am right, you are arguing and I am discussing.

Passwords can be funny!

I said, “I need to unlock your computer. What’s your password?” She replied, “You said it had to be case sensitive.” I agreed, “Yes. What is it?”

Yes, you guessed it. It was “casesensitive”. Actually that is not a bad password. I had one client who had "password" as the password. It is kind of like hiding in plain site.

Complaining about the heat?

I was complaining about how hot it is, then I realized that at least 1.) it isn't 120 degrees 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full cammies and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs. and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thanks to all who serve in our fine military!

Vacation? Yikes!

Anybody who knows me knows that I don’t take vacations. I don’t like vacations. I hate being away from what I love best. Yup. I love my work. I wish that everybody loved what they do as much as I love what I do.

But, I also love discovering new things. So we are spending a little time to do just that this coming weekend. Consequently, I will be unavailable from noon Friday until Tuesday, July 5th.

Chris Trabbic will be covering for me and I will be available to him for emergencies.

Wish me luck. I hope I discover something.

White House Email

We just learned that the Gmail accounts of the White House Staff have been compromised. Really? Gmail accounts for our Federal Government? Maybe they need to call us. YOU THINK?

The Federal Government: "Let's see how much we spend and that will be our budget."

Verizon Internet

I just called Verizon and I was directed to their Corporate Security Department at 800-483-0722 to report that one of their customers in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania was attempting to break into one of our client servers. The woman suggested I call the police. Really? Give the police an IP address?

I am not sure it is that the Verizon Corporate Security Department secures.

iTunes: Our Way or the Highway!

You have to love iTunes. You have to give them a credit card BEFORE downloading FREE apps for the iPad. Then a few days later they change their Terms and Conditions. Not to worry: only 35 pages long. We love you Apple! (Note my restraint by not using any profanity in this post.)

Our History

Back in 1981, we bought our first computer. It was an IBM PC. It cost us $4,500 including a printer, 2 5.25 floppy drives and 64k of RAM. It was the best of the best. Hard drives were not yet available. (Our first hard drive was 10 MB . . . yes  . . . not gigabytes . . . megabytes. That was to come much later.)

Shame on Oracle!

Shame on Oracle! (www.oracle.com) for pushing updates to the Java programming language that include defaults to load other programs that users do NOT want. All users are recommended to download for correct operation of Java-enabled web sites. Yet, those updates are launched with defaults that will install programs like Carbonite (a remote backup program).

This is sneaky and unconscionable. Shame on you, Oracle. Are times really that tough?
