Lost Your Windows Password?

We were able to use a specialized hacking program called ERD Commander to reset a forgotten administrator password. This tool cost us $800 a few years ago. It allows for the reset of the Administrator password, which then allows for the reset of all other users passwords. A handy utility, which saves not just the data still on the computer, but also the time to reload the operating system and all programs when users forget passwords.

Not surprising, when Microsoft wants to put somebody out of business, they simply buy the company: Winternals (the makers of ERD Commander) was purchased in 2006. Now the utility is tightly controlled by Microsoft.

Fox Software originally headquartered in Perrysburg, Ohio, was purchased by Microsoft in 1992. Because the FoxPro data engine competed with Microsoft SQL and Access, its fate was sealed. In March, 2007, Microsoft announced no further updates to the platform.
